secret birthday

i should change my blog to be a food blog instead. there's more pictures of food than anything else here. maybe my life only revolves around food. or maybe i lead a boring life and the only thing that i do everyday is eat...hence the food pictures.

anyways, this is supposed to be a post about a good friend's surprise birthday dinner. but then due to certain can't-be-spoken-about circumstances, it will be a food post instead (see, food again). no pictures of people cos the faces of those who were present that day was to be kept secret. reason? someone wasn't invited (let's call the person C)...and we didn't want to make C feel bad.

the thing is...i was the first person to find out that C wasn't invited and i had to lie about it cos i wasn't the organizer / planner. i can't actually invite another person to the dinner rite? so when i told those who were there at the dinner...we made a promise to not talk about at all. but since it's only food pictures...i dun think there's any harm rite? so to you who's reading this...if u feel that u're C, dun bother calling me and asking me about it. cos i won't say anything. and dun force me to lie. i've already reached my lie quota for this year :p

ok...the dinner was at this place called marciano's at jalan ampang. the place was called something else but they recently changed management hence the name change. the thing is...i passed the restaurant about 2 weeks ago and it was still called the old name.

the bread they serve here is THE BEST BREAD IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD UNIVERSE!!!!! you have no idea how good the bread is...it is SO GOOD that i had THREE. bf tried to stop me from eating the 3rd one cos he knows i won't be able to finish my dinner if i ate so much bread haha but not that i care rite?

the dinner was supposed to start at 7.00pm (or so the sms says) but then as usual with this group of friends...i'm always the earliest (i reached at 7.00pm sharp) and the birthday boy & gf is always the latest (they reached at 8.30pm). which i don't really understand cos usually with other ppl, i'm always the latest -.-''' the look on the birthday boy's face was priceless. he was stunned beyond words to see us there...literally...cos he didn't speak for a lil while haha.

everyone arrived and were already hungry...so we ordered an appetizer while waiting for the birthday boy to arrive. i like it...actually as long as it's prawn with mayo, i'll like it :p

they have free flow of groundnuts and u're supposed to throw the shell on the floor. we so wanted to do that but then no one else in the restaurant does that! since we were all shy (yes we ARE shy!) we used a plate for the shells haha. marciano's serves western bbq food so most of the dishes were grilled/fried/bbq-ed.

beef...with different parts of the cow - there's ribs, tenderloin and misc parts that i forgot the name

lamb shank

lobster...which i dun think worth the price that was paid for it. ok la...i dunno how much lobster costs

and the worst dish (in my opinion) of all that we ordered that night...chicken. ordered by....me.

i swear everytime i go to a western restaurant, i'll regret ordering the chicken and tell myself never to order chicken again. but the next time i'm in a western restaurant...i'll order the chicken AGAIN. and regret ordering AGAIN. -.-''' but at least the mash potatoes and veges were nice :)

the only picture of the cake that doesn't show the name of the birthday boy. it's a haagan daaz ice cream cake. i love the ribbon part the most cos it's pure chocolate :)

the night continued at zouk...which i didn't want to go initially so i didn't dress for it. but then, ended up kena dragged there. i felt so out of place wei. and i can't help to feel like ppl were looking at me weirdly. paranoid. but it was a fun night...and i didn't get drunk...though i had a few glasses plus one flaming :)

woon shen sis's wedding

i think i should make this a picture blog...or just close it down since i dun update anymore :( there are so many times that i want to update but then there's always something that i need to do / somewhere to go. yeah yeah...i know what u thinking...excuses...but it's true.

attended woon shen's sister's wedding last month. when i told a few ppl that i'm attending a friend's sister's wedding...they found it weird and funny. but then since woon shen had a table, he invited a few of his friends. luckily, i met his sister a couple of times so it wasn't that weird.

the dinner was at kota permai golf and country club. picked up marilyn from her place and left for kota permai early cos bf isn't sure the way to get there. dropped by at mcdonalds to grab some food first cos wedding dinners always start late and i was already hungry :p besides, need to buy the mcd-coke cup :)

i love the pool...don't u think it's very nice?

both marilyn and i have never been there before so we were quite lost in locating the venue. but found it at last and wished the couple while meeting up with king and rainbow before taking our seats.

our table...i like the rose petals thing :)

then my favourite part of the night begins...the FOOD !!! :D dunno why but i've always loved the food served in wedding dinners. when i was younger, i would gladly attend wedding dinners on behalf of my parents cos of the food...yeah, crazy i know.

my favourite dishes of the night...well, favourite of any wedding dinner.

i love the first dish (four season combination or as i like to call it "leng pua" in hokkien...literally mean cold plate) cos most of the time, i'll like 3 our of the 4 dishes. but my favourite of all is the 2nd dish...shark's fin soup! :) I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT SO SO SO MUCH!!! i dun mind leaving a wedding dinner after this dish...seriously. dun lecture me on sharks being killed for the fins k. i'm chinese. i'm entitled to love shark fin's soup. it's in my DNA. and of course, the meal will never be complete without the dessert...and i'm happy that it is the dessert that i love :) happiness!

in between dishes being served...it was camwhore time :) only a few pictures as most of the pictures was with king's big-ass camera and he hasn't pass them to me yet.

shall talk a bit bout the wedding so i won't look like i'm just concentrating on the food :p woon shen's bro (i forgot his name) and his friends were the performers that night. they sang a few songs and the girl's voice (i dunno her name) is really good. the groom even sang a song for his bride and after that, both the bride and groom along with their friends sang a song as well. i forgot wat song cos it was so long ago hehe

as for us (me, marilyn, senan and king), it was talk and drink while eating. i lost count of the number of times we called the waiter for alcohol. and every time the glass comes, it's bottoms up. i remember during the "yum seng" session, we even had to ask the bride, groom and the entourage to proceed to another table first as our new round of alcohol hasn't arrive yet. in total, i think we drank almost 20 glasses.

part of what we drank

i could still walk in a straight line after that though. serious.

birthdays

another long overdue post. it's easier to just bundle everything up in one post...haha.

first up, michelle's birthday...well, belated birthday. her birthday fell on a weekday so i only get to celebrate with her the weekend after. went to her favourite place...the korean restaurant :)

fattening stuff are so nice to eat :)

she thought that we were just there for dinner. what she didn't know was earlier, we bought a cake and left it at the restaurant. and during dinner, our table was just BESIDE the fridge where they kept the cake. me and christine were like "ooohhh????" hoping she doesn't realize that the cake is hers haha

the 3 sisters

making a wish

later, she told us that when she saw the cake, she was like "wah...so nice, celebrate birthday here" haha...

with mum

for the birthday song, the restaurant's owner even played a korean birthday song for her...bet she was very happy. so yeah, we actually sang "happy birthday" in korean for her.

cutting the cake with the ever greedy christine :p

with mum...

jacinda had her birthday party too...in a condo/apartment? ionno but it was in kl and it's kinda like a hotel but in an apartment size. shirley picked me up and off we go to hunt for the place cos both of us have no idea where it is.

finally found the place after countless phone calls to jac. went up to the apartment while "ooh ahh"-ing and saw daniel & jason playing guitar hero. is it guitar hero or is it something else???

started off the night by playing chor tai tee and talking and talking and talking. oh, and eating too...yellow cab pizza :D

then, the alcohol started. that's when the talking got louder...way louder. and ppl started getting high and red in the face. btw, i didn't drink...haha...so proud of myself :)

with the slightly tipsy birthday girl :)

it was cake cutting time. it was hard bringing the cake into the place without jac knowing. someone had to distract her while another person sneak the cake into one of the room.

i'm not sure whether she was surprised or not but i hope she did :)

the drinking game started after that.

i dunno whether to pity or laugh at the person who had to drink...

japanese food galore

valentine's dinner was at ninja in northpoint. bf didn't dare to do anything extravagant as i warned him not to cos of the stupid expensive price that everyone's charging for that stupid one day. besides, i'm already happy with just one meal :D

caterpillar roll?

tuna & salmon sashimi

wagyu beef on a stone

sotong

and curry rice...haha...i was addicted to it at that time :p

volcano something...

i actually loves that dish a lot but after that night, it gave me a bad impression. reason? there were flies (more than 1) on the piece that i ate. and i only realized after i bitten and swallowed a part of it -.-''' potong stim only. now whenever i feel like going there for dinner, i'll think twice. scared d...

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

heard from a friend bout this japanese restaurant in gardens called yuzu and that the food there is quite nice. so for bf's birthday last month, i decided to go there. it was funny dragging bf around gardens cos i had no idea where the restaurant is. ended up, he's the one who found it -.-'''

the food there is good...really. apparently, they fly in their sashimi a few times weekly so it's guaranteed fresh.

my standard order...salmon temaki

tuna belly and salmon sashimi...TO DIE FOR I TELL YOU!!!!! it actually MELTS in your mouth!

rice...my beloved :)

salmon...grilled, i think?

bf loves beef so i ordered the wagyu beef for him. there were about 2-3 different dishes and since we can't decide, we ordered 2 of them. i forgot what it's called though.

beef cube

beef slice

ever had beef that melts in your mouth? cos that was what happened when i ate the sliced beef. and the cubed one....i'm salivating now while thinking about it...

mango pudding - below the parsley, there was a fly. what's with me and flies in japanese restaurants??? but they did change it for me so all's good :)

i love the place...waiting for another day to go there :)

today's breakfast

one of the most satisfying breakfast in a very long time :) breakfast...korean style!!! haha...

had rice and curry :) and it's so simple to prepare. only takes a maximum of 3 minutes...2 minutes to microwave the rice and 3 minutes to boil the gravy :D and it's simply DELICIOUS!!! yum!

and to finish it off...milk...all the way from a cow in korea...haha. bought the gravy while shopping in a supermarket back when i was in seoul. the rice and milk was bought here in kl.

a lil overboard am i???
